Well, here is it, the double disc epic that I have been waiting for! Sadly, thats where the excitement ends. This album has simply failed to surprise me. There are freaking 28 tracks on the album! Unfortunately, a sizeable number of them sound like filler. The playing of both Frusciante and Flea sadly comes across as lazy. I miss those freak-out bass gallops of Flea which are nowhere to be found on this album. That said, a few songs are actually good, the kind of stuff you'd expect from RHCP, although as already said, a majority of the songs simply pass by. The sound is too bland for my taste and to add to it, all the songs are either mid-tempo (by rhcp standards) or beloew mid-tempo! I don't know if its just me, but a few songs on this "epic" sound like rip offs of earlier RHCP material. OMFG, I should stop typing now before I get depressed.. I just wanted to love this album :((
I'm going to keep listening to it though, hoping that it'd get me going at some point.

Well I had replied to a post by Rohit at rohitsammeta.blogspot.com, where he too felt that the album was a let down in general.
So I think first of all one should realise that the playing styles of Frusciante and Slovak are quite different. While Slovak was more abt using the guitar as a percussion and ripping out some totally funky hard riffs, Frusciante is more abt mellow melody. Mellow in the sense not putting u to sleep but more of the arpeggio kind. So that obviously affects Flea's style of playing.
Now commenting on stadium arcadium vs rest of frusciante's stuff.. I find that slow cheetah and hump de bump are def up there with under the bridge and give it away respectively...
It did take me time for the album to grow but i wudnt ignore it immediately
im pretty familiar with Frusciante's work. i've heard a couple of his solo albums also. anyway, thats not the point. i agree that Frusciante is a very cool musician, but this album just doesn't hit the spot.
PS: wtf is wrong with the blog.. my comments and all are generally disappearing.
I could not agree more with every line in your post .For me this double album is a "Suckfest"...anyways it's just me.
The point to be noted is that it is still maintaining it's position on billboard charts in US which shows that many people do like this album.
billboard charts huh... hmm :p
No tOOl review?
10,000 Days \mm/
Well I definitely wouldnt call this a suckfest. As for the billboard top 10, na..i wudnt really bother abt it. Somehow what I never understood abt the album's marketting strategy is WTF did they use Dani California to promo that album. THe song sucks shit seriously!!
Well honestly if people think this album sucks, then you might as well find btw or californication the same. Well mebbe 2 cds was an overdose....but the album has more than its pick of good songs.
yes golu.. there definitely are good songs on this album, but as u said 28 songs is a bit too much. it'd have been much better if they released the 10 best songs or something. you expect something extraordinary when a band is releasing 28 songs at one go.
and yeah calling it a suckfest is taking it a bit too far :D btw, im rediscovering Radiohead . hail to the thief is a masterpiece. Yorke's solo album is also on the "to listen" list..
great content....and good etching...
@infectia .. great etching?! :p anyway, we take it as a compliment
well,

haha lol. mallu rap!
Nop man RHCP album Stadium Arcadium is a great album, after repeated listenings it grows on you.
ALso to point out theat the First Cd is flawless while the second mite be little weak.
They arnt exactly the funky types of Blood Sugar Sex Magix etc but they hv defn moved foward from By The Way Which didnt have funk at all (though i liked it too)....
Stadium Arcadium is a gr8 album considering the fact that its a double album with 28 tracks and each track cannot be gold....
PEACE
