Why doesn't this thing allow me to name my entry? Where's the good old Subject line? I tell you, this new generation of blogs...it's just not the same anymore!

So, what have I - the cool dude drummer who's trying to figure out how to hold his sticks (puns absolutely unintentional!) - been listening to in the last few (two?) days? Hold your breath...The Kinks! And Ray Charles of course! There's this song in the Ray Charles Ultimate Hits 1 collection "What I'd say Parts 1 and 2", the beginning of which, sounds hauntingly similar to "Break on Through"! I was reading about the Doors and seems they lifted music from a Kinks song also for one of their songs :O

Who cares? The Doors were God anyway!

So, getting back to Kinks (The Kinks?) They're this old band, a little older than the Doors, were famous and all at the time Jim Morrison was going mad. They have well, a unique sound, that seems to capture the general madness and rebellion of the sixties, put it through a goodness filter, and thus get a cheerful, rocky rolly sound that now old men who lived in those times can listen to and feel good about themselves.

It might be unfair to talk about them in terms of other bands, but I can't help noticing that their sound's like a Led Zeppier version of the Beatles sound. I can make out that there's something different about the way that the guitars are played. The bass, the lead and rhythm (Rhythm doesn't have any vowels!) all seem to be.......Kinky, in a cheerful way.

Their Greatest Hits, atleast doesn't have any slow songs and they seem like this band that had concerts where people were jumping about and shaking their long hair, but weren't taking drugs and had probably taken permission from their parents to come. Do you get what I'm saying?

Now my favourite part, The Drums. The drummer has his own style, like most drummers do. And his style is good, like most drummers' styles. To put it in a cliched sort of way, he's unique, just like everyone else ;)

Reddy or Nikhil, please explain to me what going offbeat (on purpose) is. What are odd time signatures? Nothing seems odd or a signature in any song I hear even if I read on the net that this song has an odd time signature! Preferably, write a post about it, one of you! Also include things that you've been learning now so that I can get a few new things to do! :)
